Our mission

Why Klir exists

The apps that replaced Mint are good, and none of them are built for someone just starting out. They are written for a person with a mortgage and a retirement account, and they assume you already know what your statement is telling you.

What a first-card 19-year-old is choosing between

2024Mint
Shut down by Intuit, and nothing has replaced it at that price.
$99.99Monarch
A year for Core, its cheapest plan, billed annually. That works out at $8.33 a month.
$95Copilot
A year, billed yearly. That works out at $7.92 a month.

Monarch and Copilot prices are the annual plans listed on each company's own pricing page, checked on 4 September 2026.

The problem is smaller and more annoying than that

Your bank shows you a line like TST* BLUE BOTTLE 8871 and a number. It does not tell you that was the cafe on the corner, or how much you have spent there this month.

So Klir does one thing first. Tap a charge you do not recognise and it tells you what it really was, in a sentence, using your own numbers rather than a general rule about how people ought to spend.

The information is already yours. Nobody has bothered to translate it.

Read-only is a decision, not a feature

Klir connects to your bank through Plaid, the service Venmo and Robinhood use, and the connection only reads. That is not a promise about how carefully we behave. It is the limit of what the connection is able to do: Klir holds no password and no permission that would let it move, send, or spend a cent.

It also rules out how some other money apps pay for themselves.

  • Impossible by construction

It cannot take a cut of your payments

Some money apps earn a percentage of a payment they help you make. Klir has no way to touch a payment, so there is no percentage for it to earn. That is not restraint on our part.

  • Written down

It does not sell your data

This one is a promise rather than a limit, so it belongs somewhere it can be held against us. It is in our Privacy Policy, not only here.

You will not see ads or loan offers here either.

No lectures

Klir does not tell you what you should have done with money you have already spent, and it never gives financial advice. It shows you what happened and explains it. What you do next is yours.

Get in early

Klir opens to everyone on 23 September. Add your email and we will tell you the day it does.
